“This is certainly not what the world expects to see in a country that is the world’s sole superpower,” it added. “But that sadly is the reality of the US.”

This rhetoric isn’t just embarrassing for Washington, it’s also a sign of how the US may find its influence damaged by a perceived hypocrisy over human rights at home and abroad.

Earlier today, Hong Kong’s leader Carrie Lam pointed to the unrest in the US as evidence of Washington’s “double standards.”

“They attach great importance to the national security of their country, but look at our national security through tinted spectacles, especially the current situation in Hong Kong,” she added.

The ability of Washington to influence Beijing’s position on Hong Kong – which is in part founded on fear of outside influence in the city – was already severely limited. The Trump administration’s reaction to protests at home may have hurt its position even further.

Extreme heat is a killer and its impact is becoming far, far deadlier as the human-caused climate crisis supercharges temperatures, according to a new study, which estimates global warming tripled the number of deaths in the recent European heat wave.

For more than a week, temperatures in many parts of Europe spiked above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Tourist attractions closed, wildfires ripped through several countries, and people struggled to cope on a continent where air conditioning is rare.

The outcome was deadly. Thousands of people are estimated to have lost their lives, according to a first-of-its-kind rapid analysis study published Wednesday.

A team of researchers, led by Imperial College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, looked at 10 days of extreme heat between June 23 and July 2 across 12 European cities, including London, Paris, Athens, Madrid and Rome.

They used historical weather data to calculate how intense the heat would have been if humans had not burned fossil fuels and warmed the world by 1.3 degrees Celsius. They found climate change made Europe’s heat wave 1 to 4 degrees Celsius (1.8 to 7.2 Fahrenheit) hotter.

The scientists then used research on the relationship between heat and daily deaths to estimate how many people lost their lives.

They found approximately 2,300 people died during ten days of heat across the 12 cities, around 1,500 more than would have died in a world without climate change. In other words, global heating was responsible for 65% of the total death toll.

“The results show how relatively small increases in the hottest temperatures can trigger huge surges in death,” the study authors wrote.

Heat has a particularly pernicious impact on people with underlying health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes and respiratory problems.

People over 65 years old were most affected, accounting for 88% of the excess deaths, according to the analysis. But heat can be deadly for anyone. Nearly 200 of the estimated deaths across the 12 cities were among those aged 20 to 65.

Climate change was responsible for the vast majority of heat deaths in some cities. In Madrid, it accounted for about 90% of estimated heat wave deaths, the analysis found.

Camp Mystic has two sites, both of which overlap with either the floodway or areas the federal government has determined have a 1% or 0.2% annual chance of flooding.

The camp confirmed that at least 27 campers and counsellors perished in the floods, in a statement on its website. It said it is in communication with local authorities who are continuing to search for “missing girls.”

Ten minutes north on the South Fork is Camp La Junta, a boys camp. Some of Camp La Junta’s property also coincides with areas known to flood, though several of its buildings are located in the lower-risk zone, or outside the flood zones entirely.

При этом приобрести квартиру не успела — счета заблокировали. Она работающая, получает 31 тыс. рублей в месяц, а платеж по ипотеке оказался 86 тыс. в месяц. Очень ждут, когда появится возможность приобрести квартиру с помощью кооператива. Дом для многодетной семьи Лилия Ахметова из Набережных Челнов, у которой инвалиды в семье, вступила в кооператив в 2017 году и в том же году приобрела однокомнатную квартиру для мамы. «Параллельно в моей семье возникла необходимость покупки недвижимости, - рассказывает она. - У нас была трехкомнатная квартира, но у нас трое детей, причем дочка с инвалидностью: у нее аутизм и ДЦП. Нам надо было расширяться, и мы стали искать варианты для себя. При этом сначала муж вариант с приобретением квартиры с помощью кооператива не рассматривал». Искали вариант покупки дома, подчеркивает Лилия. «Нашли дом в черте города за 10 млн. Получили одобрение на ипотеку — но оформление дома затягивалось. Мы продали квартиру и дачу, чтобы внести первоначальный взнос, но оформление этого только построенного дома со стороны продавцов затянулось, и одобрение ипотеки закончилось. А нового нам не дали — повторно ипотеку банк не оформил! И тогда муж предложил попробовать приобрести этот дом с помощью кооператива, благо средства на первоначальный внос у нас были. Мы внесли 50% от стоимости дома, встали в очередь. И через несколько месяцев представили объект на одобрение кооператива. Был очень жесткий контроль и оценка со стороны кооператива — но мы его прошли, так как дом был новый. Причем это был последний дом, на который дал согласие кооператив: позднее дома из устава кооператива убрали. Дальше потребовалась нотариально оформленная сделка, а не сделка с помощью МФЦ, так как продавцы — двое супругов-пенсионеров. Однако мы все препятствия прошли, и дом был приобретен кооперативом». У мамы, рассказывает Лилия, случился инсульт: «Ее пришлось перевезти к нам в дом, теперь на моем попечении два инвалида. Дочке сделали операцию на спине, и в доме понадобилось реабилитационное оборудование — которое не могло бы вместиться в квартиру. Дочка 18+, и ей понадобилось оформить опеку — но у социальных органов не возникло вопросов к тому, что мы живем в кооперативном доме». Мамину квартиру, рассказывает Лилия, уже оформили в собственность — полностью расплатились с кооперативом. По дому расплатиться еще предстоит. «Покупка дома с помощью кооператива — для нас это был безальтернативный вариант, — рассказывает Лилия. — В кооператив по рассрочке нужно вернуть 5 млн за 10 лет, плюс небольшие членские взносы, большую часть мы уже вернули. А по ипотеке нужно было бы вернуть банку 15 млн!» «Мы очень довольны кооперативом, — подчеркивает Лилия Ахметова. — Я восхищена порядочностью и продуманностью системы работы кооператива. Удобная система платежей — кооператив создавал уникальные возможности для приобретения недвижимости! Верю, что его работа будет восстановлена, закон на нашей стороне. Если бы была возможность, я бы старшему ребенку, который учится в другом городе, также приобрела квартиру с помощью кооператива».

J’utilise UTLH comme une pause financiere. Je m’explique : quand je ne sais pas encore ou investir, je mets l’argent ici. Ca genere des interets, sans perdre de valeur. Et pendant ce temps, je peux reflechir, planifier. Ce n’est pas une course au profit, c’est une ancre, un moment de repit. Cela fait trois mois que je fonctionne ainsi, et je ne l’ai jamais regrette. Au contraire, j’ai l’impression que je peux enfin ralentir. Pour la premiere fois, investir ne me stresse pas.
